Loan Repayment

The Hariri Foundation Loan Repayment Program seeks to recycle the loan monies which supported more than three thousand Lebanese students in North America during their sponsorship by the Foundation. By repaying their loans, on which no interest has ever been charged, Hariri Foundation alumni will not only be discharging an important legal and moral obligation, but will also be supporting the ongoing educational mission of the Foundation since it uses the loan repayments to support educational projects in Lebanon.

Not only does the Foundation use the loan repayments to bring Lebanese students to the United States for short-term programs, but it also uses these monies to pay the tuition of needy students at a newly established school. The land the school is located on and the construction of the school building were donated by Mr. Hariri. The new school, as well as 2 other schools in Beirut and 1 in Saida, are administered by the Hariri Foundation.

The students attending this school pay only a minimal portion of the tuition and fees,
while the greater part of their tuition and fees is being subsidized by the recycled
loans of the Hariri Foundation alumni, collected both in the U.S. and Lebanon.

 Alumni Quote:
"It's been almost a year now since I started making regular monthly payments. Every month, writing my loan repayment check is a blissful moment mixed with pride in my work, a moment where gratitude translates into numbers. Even more so now, knowing that the loan repayment fund will be used to provide financial support to the school for needy children in Lebanon is giving this moment a new meaning. Somehow, I, a Hariri Scholar, will be indirectly joining in the 'Giving to Build Lebanon' dream of the one person behind it all. The opportunity to gain the wealth of knowledge will be given to those children, help their parents, and improve the future of Lebanon, and I, with my little monthly payments, am helping to keep the doors of opportunity open…. Strangely, writing numbers on my check does not seem enough anymore, so here is my message: Heartfelt thanks for giving us the gift of giving; heartfelt thanks for giving us the opportunity to gain the wealth of knowledge. May we in turn, give back all you've given us and more."
